Cleaning Instructions

Select your product type:

Aluminum Blinds

Keep your aluminum blind looking its best by periodically wiping it with a soft cloth, a dusting mitt, or the round brush attachment from a vacuum cleaner.

  • You can clean the blind hanging in place or you can take it down.
  • By tilting the slats down, but not quite closed, you’ll be able to clean most of the top surface of each slat.

In very dusty environments, you may need to use a sponge or dampened soft cloth to clean the blind.

  • Use warm (not hot) water and a mild detergent. The mild detergent cannot contain abrasives.
  • Rinse the blind with clean water to prevent water spots.
  • Place a towel on the floor or window sill to absorb any water that might drip from the blind.

Please note that certain solutions and equipment are too harsh and can cause shrinkage and / or color damage to your blind. The Levolor Forever Never Worry Warranty does not cover damage caused by cleaning methods that use abrasive solutions.

Wood Blinds

Keep your Custom Wood blinds looking their best by periodically wiping them with a soft cloth, a dusting mitt, or the round brush attachment from a vacuum cleaner.

  • You can clean the blind hanging in place or you can take it down.
  • By tilting the slats down, but not quite closed, you’ll be able to clean most of the top surface of each slat.

In very dusty environments, you may use a non-wax furniture polish to clean the blind.

  • Do not use water, solvents, or abrasive solutions to clean the blind. This will cause damage to the blind which is not covered under warranty.

Cellular and Pleated Shades

Dust your shades regularly with a brush-type vacuum attachment or feather duster. To spot clean, use a cloth or sponge with a mild detergent or soap and lukewarm water. Rinse thoroughly.

NOTE: With time, pleats may settle. Pleats at the bottom will be more full than those at the top. Shades that are raised regularly will be less subject to pleat settling and will maintain a more crisp appearance.

Vertical Blinds

Fabric Vanes:
Periodic vacuuming will keep the fabric fresh. Spot clean any stains by applying a mild soap and water solution with a sponge or cloth. For heavy stains, an upholstery cleaning solution may be used. Clean a small area in an inconspicuous location to test for color fastness.

Aluminum and PVC Vanes:
Apply a mild soap and cold or warm water solution with a soft cloth or sponge. Abrasive or strong cleaners may scratch or mar the vane’s surface. To keep static electricity at a minimum, do not rinse. Dry with a cloth towel to avoid water marks.

General Rules for Cleaning Any Vane:

  • Clean one vane at a time. Detach one vane, place it on a flat surface, clean as specified, and reattach the vane.
  • Soaking vanes will cause them to lose their sizing, fire retardant and soil repellent additives.
  • Never use hot water to clean vanes.
  • Never machine wash or dry clean vanes.
  • Never use a solvent cleaner.
  • Never use a dryer, hang, or fold vanes over a clothesline.
  • Never wring or crush vanes to dry them.

Natural Shades

Period vacuuming with a brush attachment is all that is normally needed to insure lasting beauty. It is recommended Natural Shades be treated with stain repellent to minimize cleaning.

Sheer Essence

Your Sheer Essence Soft Horizontal Shade should be dusted regularly. Use a feather duster or a vacuum attachment on a very low setting. To spot clean, use a soft cloth or sponge with a mild soap and lukewarm water. Use gentle strokes to prevent damage to the product. This beautiful fabric must be treated with care. Do not use abrasives or chemical cleaners.
